The Clarendon County, South Carolina, Council is considering a ban on saggy pants. State senators recently moved forward on a bill to criminalize wearing pants below a certain point, and other municipalities in the state have already enacted local ordinances banning the fashion choice.
The Clarendon County ordinance “would require any man, woman or child to wear their pants as high as three inches below their hip, and underwear cannot be shown. A long shirt covering sagging pants would be acceptable.”
There is no information on how this ordinance would be enforced countywide (let alone statewide, if the state law is passed), but the proposed bans seem to have a fair amount of support from local residents who find sagging pants indecent and “disgusting.”
